Dr. Botkin was interviewed on the Jim Bohannon Show, discussing President Obama's options on climate change and clean energy.
It was a bit of a surprise to hear President Obama talk about climate change in his inaugural address, given that the issue didn't really come up during the Presidential campaign. Still, putting it in the speech certainly gives the issue higher visibility. The President has been a strong backer of 'green' energy initiatives, with little to show for it to date. But his administration is apparently determined to spur investment in renewable energy projects as a way to create jobs. The President has argued that the U.S. can't sit by and lose the global race for clean energy to countries like China, South Korea and Germany, which all heavily subsidize their efforts in this area. So, what should the President's strategy be in tackling climate change, an issue that is still quite divisive? We'll discuss that tonight with ecologist and self-described 'rogue naturalist' Daniel Botkin, and a return guest, Bob Deans, the director of Federal Communications for the Natural Resources Defense Council.
