I HAVE PLAYED AND SUNG FOLK MUSIC ALL MY LIFE. NOW I CAN SHARE THESE

WHAT MAKES US ONE:  SHARING FOLK MUSIC   DANIEL B. BOTKIN

I have been singing folk songs all my life; my first folk song record was made when I was 6 years old.   During this recent decade, I have been sharing these recordings informally.  But now I have found a way to  share folk music more widely.   I have started a YouTube Channel for my Folk Music.  Some are sung by me; some with other folk musicians, some introducing new young singers of these songs.  Please listen to my latest track and please, if you like it, share it as widely as possible.

This first song I am sharing is:

Peace, Perfect Love

https://youtu.be/OJXD3IzPxFY

And please share this as widely as possible, so that the helpfulness of the beautiful song is heard by many people.

This song is great to help bring people together in times of anger and divisiveness.  it was written in England by a religious man as he stood by a friend who was dying and read him from the Bible about perfect peace.  Then the song got picked up by white South Africans who were upset over the treatment of the blacks, and they sang this as a church song.  Then the Jamaican Reggae group Toots and the Maytals took it and turned it into a Reggae song, which is the version I sing on this recording.  Like so many folk songs, this one does bring peace in times of trouble.

If possible, share with your friends and click on the subscribe button on Linkedin when you go to the link, so you will be added to my channel.

I plan to put up more folk songs periodically.  If you would like to be on the list that receives these songs, please fill out the short information list here and email it to me.

Beluga Whale

Excerpt from Strange Encounters: Adventures of a Renegade Naturalist by Daniel B. Botkin. How many hours does a whale sleep?" I asked into the telephone receiver. If anybody could have seen my red face, he would have known how embarrassed I felt asking this question. I was working as a research scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts, … [Read more...]

It’s time to replace Smokey Bear as a Image of Nature

April 20, 2007 By Daniel Botkin Leave a Comment

MORPH THE MOOSE (TM) Copyright (c) 2003 Daniel B. Botkin Change is natural; nature is always changing, and we need a new image that represents this fundamental feature of our environment.  Smokey Bear, who says, "only you can prevent forest fires," stands for the old idea of nature as static, unchanging.  I was asked to suggest alternatives, and Morph the Moose (TM) won.  … [Read more...]

Daniel Botkin
I believe we are mostly on the wrong track in the way we try to deal with the environment. Everything I do, study, learn, and advise about the environment is different from the status quo. Throughout my career, I have tried to understand how nature works and use that understanding to figure out how we can solve our most pressing environmental problems.

My process over the past 45 years has been to look carefully at the facts, make simple calculations from them (sometimes simple computer models) and then tell people what I have learned. It’s surprising how rarely people bother to look at the facts. This has surprised me every time I’ve started a new ecology research project or work on an environmental issue.

In the course of my work and studies, I have learned many things and I want to tell you about them. That is the purpose of this website.

Jabowa III Forest Model

Jabowa Forest Model
Jabowa Forest Model for Windows 7.
This forest model, used around the world, was developed first in 1970 by Daniel B. Botkin, James F. Janak and James R. Wallis

JABOWA remains the most completely detailed and well validated forest growth model available, accounting for 95% or more of the variation in real forests where it has been tested.

The book Forest Dynamics: An Ecological Model (available as an eBook) provides a complete description of the model and the rationales behind its development.
